Flurries of activity
Busy weekend, which explains why I am blogging now; I thought about blogging last night but I ended up crashing. Alas! Anyways, Friday was the Four Eagles Dinner, which was... nice. Very busy. Lots of good grub (I have leftover pickle soup, of all things, quite nice), lots of good people...hope it was a good fundraiser. But a late night by the time I got home and whatnot.
Yesterday was OC duty...beautiful weather, especially compared to last week -- perfect temperature, minimal breeze, etc. Crowd was 138; seemed more. Most of the cars had only one family, which I think it was like that -- lots of trips to cars and such. Also, for some reasons, it was social hour with this crew, and people were chatting and all, with the result that I had to walk/run more to get people served... we did close at 12, and even if I had to haul all the rubbish out... it was fine. The shelves are bare (as expected) so the order will be immense. Our ops manager was there (trying to train her on how to run the show up front) and she was panicking about this; I don't know... I mean, we do order for this, you know, and the point is we run low before the order and then stock up. Especially given how some of these things will be less available and such. Oi.
Anyways, then gym, errands, coffee with a friend, and home, where I baked some brownies for next week's City Music Concert (we are selling refreshments to boost the roof fund), just chilled and crashed. I haven't bought eggs in a while, and with the prices...well, I won't be buying them for a while, but for the Church... Not slept long or well lately, and it is showing... even today I am dragging a bit, but I powered through -- Mass, May crowning (no rose petals, alas, but still quite nice), bullcrap after Mass, gym, errands, and a visit to my sister. Rah! Home now where I am going through the backlog of emails and such before work a bit. I think I am going to walk outside -- beautiful out there, perfect weather, and I am going to enjoy it and get some Vitamin D.
Jim Banks: A Trade Warrior After Trump’s Own Heart | RealClearPolitics
Interesting article. Like many in the GOP (I suspect) I am still skeptical of the trade war (or at least fighting one without getting our industrial system up and running first) but this is a good perspective as to why it could work.
Republicans want to shift safety-net costs to states. It’s not going over well. - POLITICO
This could be me, but if the whole thing is unsustainable, then no amount of tinkering or gamemanship will fix it. I can see why the states would like the current system, as they reap the benefits without absorbing the costs, but that is a pile of crap also. No one -- certainly not our worthless paper -- seems to want to mention this. And that is sort of the crux of the issue...
