Game Night
Next to last day of winter break, and I was less than productive on the house front, mainly because... I went to a wake and funeral today. One of the sous-chefs from our parish caterer -- his father passed away, and I figured it would behoove me to attend -- once you have been in the trenches with someone, you are their friend, right? It was nice, albeit a bit long -- he was very active in his parish and various Catholic activities, and in consequence the church was packed. I have to admit, there is something to be said for the beauty of the Catholic Mass and funeral service; not that I have attended many non-Catholic ones, but even at a slightly frosty graveside committal, it was quite nice. To be part of the group, I joined the post-funeral lunch, which was fine -- good to see everyone again -- and I ended up being invited to a nite out at the Monsters game in someone's family luxury box.
I had not been to Ricket Mortgage Fieldhouse in at least a decade, and it was...different from what I remember? Much nicer? Seemed like they had fewer concession stands and more areas for specialty stuff -- sports book, etc. Interesting. The game was fun -- the Monsters won -- and it was sort of nice to iut in a comfy seat and eat popcorn and veggies. Not sure I would do it all the time, but...
Yesterday I went to the OC to help with the pickups -- we had good pickups, but on top of what we already had, it was...hard to fit it in. We do not have a lot of produce, but there are plenty of eggs, lots of laundry detergent (ordered to spend down our December grant), and everyone can get two meats and bread items, which should quell most of the complaints. I am not managing, but I hear about everything and get the reports, and I do like to keep track of what happens, so...
