News Good and Bad
Busy day today, and I am sort of feeling it... first we had Ozanam/new volunteer training on the East Side for our new Conference and other interested volunteers. I would like to think it went well; a bit long, but we had a lot to cover, and they asked a lot of (good and relevant) questions, which we made sure we answered. I was pleased, and now I need to find more parishes to join in (as always). Then, since I was on the east side, I met a former coworker for lunch -- it was good to catch up, celebrate the return of President Awesome, and just hang out. We selected Panini's, and I forgot how much I loved those panini sandwiches. I mean, usually I would get one after a Tribe game, so it was not quite the same, but it was quite good.
Then off to my sister's to exchange stuff, and then home -- just in time -- to watch the Duke game. Two different games; Duke really played well in the first half, big lead, and then played like crap the first half of the second half... as if they were trying to lose. But, they recovered just enough to pull out a win. Hard to judge Wake Forest; lot of wins, but a Little Sister of the Poor schedule takes off the luster. I think the weakness of the ACC makes them very borderline, unless they make a lot of noise in conference (including the ACC tournament), and even then...my enjoyment of the comeback was highly tempered by the news that one of the co-managers of the OC passed away. Tom was a good guy -- experienced, wise, knew the area -- and he had been with us from the beginning. He had been battling cancer for a while, and while it was not good at first...well, we had had hope. Alas. This is another crisis of leadership for one of my parishes, which I will need to solve. Oi.
Are we entering a Conservative Golden Age? - by Nate Silver
Bit long. But interesting. Do I believe it? Possibly; I will note that by and large our wins are "preventing the others from losing" which is not the same as winning, though there is some hope that Trump will be achieve something along that line. But I think he is largely correct that there are broad and general sweeps to US policy that go one way and another... it is Nate Silver, after all!
