Together

Interesting move by the Tribe today, sending Bauer to the pen -- despite his stellar performance -- in favor of Tomlin (who has the snazzy contract) and Anderson (who has options).  I mean, unless they are saying one thing to us and something else to them, it seems odd; yes, Anderson has thrown harder this spring, but he's not been as effective as now walk-averse Trevor.  Tomlin had a role, so why Bauer and his warm up is sent down there...unless they want to save his arm for a month or so...  well, I cannot explain it.  I also noted that the Tribe is carrying eight relievers....for April.  Oi.

Since I complained about NOT watching a movie, I decided to watch one...the 1931 documentary (silent) "The Forgotten Frontier," about frontier medicine in rural Kentucky.  Aside from the staged scenes, it was pretty interesting; basically, to bring medical care to the people of the region...they built a clinic, sent out MDs and nurses, and put them on horses, like circuit riders.  The film centered on Harlan County, which was a documentary about a coal strike (which I've seen)...so that was cool in and of itself.

Catching Up

Much like the drunk who quits, or the exercise fanatic back at the gym (that would be me!), I am back...OC stats for Match (closed for Easter, you know):
283 households, serving 133 seniors, 374 adults, 199 kids (this seems off, but I don't care, either)

Rah.  In the meantime, work is slightly better.  I find myself getting fat; I suspect (I weighed in at 177 at the gym today) this is due to the food, which is all the Easter goodies...ham, kielbasa, bakery.  Soon they will be gone, though, and back to the grind.  I have hit the gym hard the past two days after the layoff; prolly not the smartest thing, but damn it, I want to, and it did feel good.

Movie-wise, stuck at 409; I ordered "El Norte" from the library, but it was defective, so another copy is on the way.  I do have the final season of "Mad Men" to watch, which I am doing; I always joke about getting a show in before baseball every year, and I think not this time.  Vacation did the trick.  I like the show, will miss it; like To Kill A Mockingbird, I don't think it was the best ever, but it is good.

I have nine library books on the table...this week, assuming I survive, I am handling them.

Back in the saddle

Well, I'm back.  Some of you may have guessed I went on vacation -- FL to see Favorite Niece play softball...they went 9-1, she did ok; I had a fun time, got some sun, hung out, and chilled.  Work has been shitty; last week was the pits; this week, less so, but still unpleasant.  Also basketball, which has filled my nights.

But, we're back (I still have oranges and some cheap/bulk booze from FL, as well as an itchy scalp, caused by God knows what; annoying, immensely so, but I hope not...fatal).

Tribe talk (my favorite, of course).  Chisenhall news was sad but...well, if he is hurt, so be it.  I am surprised Naquin is on the roster; not that he didn't deserve it but we all know how they are about service time nowadays.  Anyways, it appears that Marlon Byrd will be out there (LF, I hope), given the fondness for veterans and the well, unappetizing alternatives (at work, we did snark that Swisher is available, and he is technically paid for, by us, to boot)...might not be the worst thing.

The bullpen fascinates me.  The first four I see.  Joba...yeah, sure.  The interesting thing to me is that you will have only ONE lefty.one, why only one (what if need to neutralize Ortiz twice).  I mean, given the Francona fondness for matchups and machinations and whatnot...do we really want to see 100 batters of Detwiler?  Maybe, but given the choice between Otero and, say, Crockett...well, I prefer the latter.  The other thing of course is that given the calendar, you won't need a fifth starter, and given that Anderson has options, you could send him down and pull up an extra arm (unless you want it to be Cody, which is fine, but again, one lefty)...

One thing I do NOT want to see is Lindor leading MLB in sacrifices.  Which means we will see exactly that.

Respite

Yes, a week since blogging...and might be more of the same, as work has been a killer, to say nothing of the college hoops watching going on...I have to admit, the smaller conference tourneys are pretty cool; I mean, all on the line, the excitement of the winning team...it's something.  Or, as I like to say, now is a good time of year to watch "Hoosiers."

OC Stats for February: 346 client visits (weather is some of it, not sure about the rest) totaling 151 seniors, 458 adults, and 251 children.  Rah.

This is actually a pretty cool and interesting article...I mean, aside from the usual hair-raising debt caused by Catholic schools (good grief), I sort of like the idea of using the lay people and business sense to get people (and dollars) into the place...

Unraveling

All I can say is, for the next week or so...I just need to survive.  Work is crappy, my health is erratic, stress is affecting my blood sugars, the brakes on the Behemoth were making a grinding sound...all of this stuff will get settled one way or the other, of course, and in the end, things will be...ok (albeit just ok), but for now...as I say, sometimes life is to be lived, and sometimes, life is to be endured.  Now, we endure.

I suspect you will see more of this as the debate over the minimum wage rises.  I do not think it is necessarily a bad thing -- one can say that these jobs are those we should automate if possible -- but the problem of course is that as we have fewer jobs (and fewer entry jobs) it is going to make it harder to get minimum wage jobs, so such issues as youth and urban unemployment will...well, if not fall, become more or less stagnant.

As we say in the Fun Run bunch...imagine that.
